Breweries join forces to create special - transatlantic - Norfolk Day beer
Brewers from The Norfolk Brewhouse, in Hindringham, have teamed up with those at Smartmouth
Brewing Company in Norfolk, Virginia, to create a special collaboration beer.
The beer - which is yet to be named - will use ingredients from both sides of the Atlantic and will be released on Saturday, July 27, Norfolk Day.
David Holliday, from The Norfolk Brewhouse, said the idea for the collaboration came after the brewery created two special Moon Gazer ales to celebrate last year's Norfolk day.
He said: “The beers went down well and the team joked about doing something in 2019 which could include Norfolk Virginia – and celebrate Norfolk barley in America.”
Following the idea, Mr Holliday, who is an ambassador for Norfolk's Maris Otter Barley and international brew collaborations, contacted Smartmouth Brewing, where the team, who were already aware of Norfolk Day, were more than happy to get involved.

Norfolk Raider Cider
Norfolk Raider Cider started 4 years ago by Paul & Beth Cork and is the only cider brewed in Norwich. With many delicious flavours to choose from, including - Dolly Pink (4.2%) a pink fruity cider, Honey Belle (4.2%) smooth tasting honey cider, Wingman (6.2%) a refreshing clear strong cider and the Original (8.5%) a strong cider but not lacking in taste. They are very proud of all the flavours of the cider, each variation carries some family tradition with much thought and care.
When Paul was younger he knew an older gentleman who told him a story about some airmen who would come down to the local pub to have their final drinks before going on bombing raids the next day. The locals referred to these men as ‘The Norfolk Raiders’. They flew out from Norwich airport which at the time was the B24 bombing base. Paul wanted to tie his cider to a piece of history and this noble story was exactly what he was looking for. Thus born The Norfolk ‘Raider’ Cider. Norfolk Raiders is based in Rackheath, Norwich.
